I have the same problem that Howie*, who posted the
problem of suddenly getting a log on screen instead of
smoothly going straight to the desktop. Also got a
different shut down screen instead of the three squares to
choose from I have to do a drop down screen. I did what
Austin told him to do**, but I am still getting both the
logon
user screen and the shutdown box. Any other ideas?

I was fine until 6/2/03 when I downloaded some critical
updates and it appears to have changed my settings
somewhere in my computer.

Thanks for any help...Glynnes, (e-mail address removed)

*I did something, no idea what, so that instead of xp pro
just smoothly
starting up, I have to deal with a logon screen. This also
seemed to change
the logoff screen from the pretty one with 3 choices, 3
buttons, to an ugly
dialog box. Any idea what I did or, more important, how to
reset it back to
the original? Thanks.

**How to disable XP Logo checking:

begin procedure:
Right Mouse-Click "My Computer"
Select "Properties"
Select "Hardware" Tab
Select "Driver Signing"
Select "Ignore - Install the software anyway
and don't ask for my approval."
Select "Make this action the system default"
Select "OK"
Select "OK"
end procedure.

Start/run control userpasswords2

Uncheck the box requiring a username and password, click
apply/ok and follow
the prompts to set up a default logon.
