I am looking to purchase a black-and-white Personal Laser
and would like some recommendations. I want something on
the inexpensive side (as laser printers go). Under $200 USD
and the more under, the better. :) Would prefer
something without a large power requirement. I looked at the
Minolta 1350W and 1250W and they take over 800 watts. Yikes!
Oh, and my computer uses Windows XP Home Edition.

I am looking at the Brother HL-1440 and the H-P Laserjet
1012. Which one would be the better choice? Or any other
recommendation. I live in the USA.

I have a Samsung ML-1710 and am pretty happy with it.
But I was thinking about a different company. Also
I can only get one rebate with the Samsung.

Any ideas would be welcome!

Thanks.

I wouldn't worry too much about power consumption. I think every laser
printer now goes into a very low powered sleep mode when not used. The
800 Watt rating would be the peak load, a few seconds for each page.
(But your wiring will need to be able to take that.)

Thanks. I will think about it.

800 watts still seems like a large power requirement compared
to other personal lasers though.

The toner button on my Samsung 1710 works well. I do not notice
a significant difference in print when using it as compared to
not using it. Consequntly I have toner saver on all the time.
I really like my Samsung 1710. Especially that the paper trey is
a cartridege that is inserted into the body of the printer. Thats neat!

I would not recommend a Brother printer, I have burnt out two doing a
regular print run of 20 copies of 21 pages. If you can find the cash try a
Kyocera. I bought a second hand FS1750 and have just completed 50,000 full
pages of text and just loaded my 3rd toner cartridge. Slow at 14 pgm but
very very economical
