Buying Scanners on Online stores

I have noted that many scanners on internet stort fronts seem to carry
warning messages like "NON-REFUNDABLE ITEM.Warranty is provided
through product Manufacturer Only!" Is this the wave of the future or
is there some issue with scanners being sold and shipped over the
internet. I have built several computers from parts gotten on the net
and do not remember these messages.

I am looking at buying a Epson Perfection 4870 PRO Scanner and the
messages at several sites have given me pause.

Thanks

Gary

Maybe Epson is controlling their product line. I do not like Epson's
"chipped ink cartridges".

The Warranty has always been provided by the manufacturer.

If you buy a product from a brick and mortar store, then you can take it
back to the store, but the store sends it to the manufacturer to have it
repaired or exchanged or the store has a in store repair shop. The
manufacturer pays the store for any in Warranty repairs.
