Hi

I'm using Windows ME and MS Office 2000 Premium, my PC
keeps crashing and I'm considering getting a new PC.

If I buy a replacement PC with XP can I upload my existing
MS Office 2000 Premium onto it? Will it work?

Nearly all PC's come with Office Basic basic, but I dont
want to buy that if I can use my MS Office 2000 Premium
that has all the extra applications (albiet not the latest
version).

Many thanks in advance
Regards
Richard

Nearly all computer come with Windows...Windows does not
include any version of OFFICE. Some companies do include
Office Small Business edition for extra cost.
The question you need to answer is how did you get the
version of Office 2000 you have and what does its EULA say.
If it came bundled with your computer by the OEM and the
Office CD says it is OEM, then you cannot move it to the new
computer, it must stay with the computer.

If you bought it yourself and installed it, then you can
uninstall it from computer #1 and install it on computer #2.

The OP stated his version of Office was MSFT Office 2000 Premium.
AFAIK, Office Premium isn't bundled with any computer package, is it?

That would depend on the options the particular OEM used.
Office SBE was intended for OEM installs, but I suppose that
if you bought a computer from an OEM (say Packard-Bell) and
they included a retail version of Office, you would have a
retail (transferable) EULA, but if they had a deal on really
inexpensive Office Premium (Pro or whatever) that was
labeled OEM on the CD and had a limited EULA then it would
be tied to the hardware. He has to look at his EULA/CDs to
answer the question. I just raised the issue, since the
question was answered as functionality, Office 2000 will run
under XP, but that wasn't the question.

There are OEM versions of Office Premium available. Most computer
vendors would list this as an extra cost option.

My supplier currently lists OEM versions of Office XP Professional and
Office 2003 Professional. My selling prices for these, as an extra
item with a new computer purchase, would be $CDN495 for OEM Office XP
Pro and $CDN545 for OEM Office 2003 Pro.

OEM Small Business Editions are also available for both Office XP and
Office 2003 as well.
