I'm considering buying a ASUS PC-DL motherboard with dual P4/2.4G
processors and 2GB ram with dual 200GB IDE drives for a small FTP
server.

Anyone using this board?

Wow that is a lot for a small FTP server.

Yeah, completely pointless duel xeon rubbage :p
oo - xcuse me, bit jealous.

Did I miss something here - I just wondered if anyone in this group was
using the PC-DL board and if so, how they liked it. I also thought that
my explanation of my intended use might also provide some quality
feedback from others that have used this board for such things.

The system, Dual CPU, dual 200GB, 2GB ram, motherboard, case + 400W PSU
(I have the other parts on the shelf) is about $1500, I figured for that
price I would just go with Dual P4/Xeon's.....

After working with DUAL CPU systems for so long, I can't stand working
on a single CPU system.

It did sound a bit like, "Im considering getting an Apache Gunship to keep
crows off my feild" :)
-I make the occassional curt post, sorry about that.

Thats something Id like to try.

Just imagine a system that never stalls for even a second - that's what
it's like to run a Dual or Quad CPU workstation (well, a Quad isn't
really a workstation, but if felt good to say it that way).

-Absolutely, its frustratings to have, what I find now to be completely
bonkers amount of CPU power to use and still get lags because the CPU cant
divide its attention efficiently.
Hyperthreading capability sounds promising (if well supported -a virtual
CPU shouldnt have much to do while waiting for an impatient interupt)
Ive recently been considering how, Dual P4 rigs might be the current best
deal for smooth PC and ,good anticipated upgradablity since even P4 EE must
become cheap in the future.

Where there is limited support for HT in Windows 2000 and XP Prof, 2003
makes much better use of it.

Agreed. I much prefer dual-CPU systems, though mine is just a Dual-
PIII 1GHz system. I've used both, and there is simply less "waiting"
with SMP.
