Put a button on all the slides but when i press the
button on slide 1. the music does not start, and only the
headers show, no pictures, just the headers show.
powerpoint 2002

What did you link the button to? How did you add music and pictures to your
slide? What are the "headers".

I went to master slide, then to slide show, then action
button, then clicked on to make hyperlink, i am new to
powerpoint, with the slide show i made i just inported
pictures to each slide and put a music file from sound
from clip oranizer

Yes, but what did you link the button to? Where do you want to go when you
click on the button? Putting it on the Slide Master is fine if you want it
to appear on every page.

You should insert the music file when in Normal view. If you want it to
play over multiple slides, see:

Play sounds across multiple slides
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00047.htm

Regarding the pictures, did you copy and paste them? If so, it is better to
save them to your hard drive and then insert them via Insert > Picture >
Picture from File.

I clicked on hyperlink on the button in slide master so
it is on every slide, i done as you say i put the music
file in normal view.
i have it that the music starts on the first slide and it
plays in a loop,like slide 1 to slide 67, with a mouse
click, to go to the next slide.
I did save them to my hard drive and then insert them via
Insert > Picture >

Did you set the music file to play automatically?

When you went to Action Settings > Hyperlink to, what did you link to?

when i right mouse click on the speaker icon, i picked
Action settings, but everything is grayed out, with just
one dot highlighted with play in a box,

No, I mean when you linked the button. What did you link it to. When you
selected the button and went to Action Settings > Hyperlink To, you have to
select something. It defaults to Next Slide. Did you leave it at Next
Slide?

Right click on the speaker icon and select Custom Animation. In the task
pane to the right, click on your music object. Under the Effects tab, is it
set to play from the beginning and stop after XX slides? Under the Timing
tab, is it set to start With Previous, Delay = 0?

Yes i have done everything that you ask below, took it to
a friend he check it on his computer he said it is
looking for the sound file on my computer, so it is not
in the right place on the C.D. do i put it in the
prestent folder where i put the Presentation slide and
ppveiwer

You know, it shouldn't be like pulling teeth to get specific information
from you in order to help you resolve your problem. You still haven't
answered Sonia's very simple question, which is what did you link to in the
action settings? What *exactly* does it say there?

Anyway, maybe this will explain your linking problem.
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00155.htm You need to delete the sound
from your presentation. Then move the sound file to the folder with your
presentation. Then reinsert the sound and relink it.

Ok, so the next question is, what exactly do you want the button to do? Do
you want the music to start when you click the button? Or do you just want
the button to take you to the next slide?

I started typing up a whole response to tell you how to set the music to
start when you click the button, but I think I'll wait and make sure that's
actually what you want to do before I post it.

Since this thread is titled "buttons," we're all thinking about the buttons,
but I suspect the issue really is that you just want your pictures to show
up, your sound to play throughout the slides (whether you click a button or
not), and to move to the next slide each time you click a button. Please
confirm if that's correct or if I'm just dreaming.

Finally, though, regarding your missing pictures, you may need the latest
service packs/releases. Go to
http://office.microsoft.com/OfficeUpdate/default.aspx and click on "Check
for Updates" (near the top middle of the page). Go ahead and install any
necessary updates.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to this.

Basically, you're expecting two different actions from the same button --
move to next slide and play sound across all slides -- but you've only set
up one action on the button (move to next slide).

Your "move to next slide" action seems to be fine. It's the sound part
you're having trouble with.

In this situation, I think your easiest solution will be to create a
separate button to start the sound. However, you won't use an action setting
to start the sound. Instead, you'll start the sound with a trigger
animation.

First step is to put the sound file in the same folder as your presentation.
Do this before you do anything else. (This will make your life easier when
you actually go to make the CD.)

Second step is to read this page about trigger animations.
http://www.echosvoice.com/triggers.htm That should give you a basic
understanding of how a trigger works.

Third step is to use Insert/Movies and Sounds/Sound from File and choose
your sound. (It should be in the same folder as your presentation.) Click
Yes when you're asked if you want to play the sound automatically.

Fourth step is to create another button or autoshape to click to start your
sound. If you use an action button, be sure to go to the Action Settings
area and set the action to "none," because you're going to use something
different -- a trigger animation, not an action setting -- to start your
sound.

Fifth step is to then apply what you learned in the trigger animation page.
In the tutorial, I have you set a textbox to animate when an autoshape is
clicked. To do this, you apply the trigger animation to the textbox. So in
your case, you'll apply the trigger to your sound file (which should show as
a little speaker icon on your slide) using the Timing option for the sound
file on the Custom Animation task pane. You will want to choose your second
button to start the effect.

Sixth step is to fix the Effect options on your sound file so that it plays
throughout the slides. Put 999 in the "Stop Playing after XXX slides" box.

Those steps should allow you to play your sound when you click a button.

You're welcome, Brian. If you can't get it to work, feel free to post back.
Just be sure to remind us which version of PPT you're using, what you're
trying to do, and the exact steps you're taking to get there.

Cheers,
Echo

Fourth step is to create another button or autoshape to click to start your
sound. If you use an action button, be sure to go to the Action Settings
area and set the action to "none," because you're going to use something
different -- a trigger animation, not an action setting - - to start your
