Buttons That Dont Work

I've got a brand new laptop that came with Vista Home Premium installed. I
keep getting system hangs where I try to push a button and nothing happens.
It could be any button at any time. For example, I sign on to Hotmail and
the same thing that worked earlier no longer works. I enter the password,
push the sign in button and the box momentarily changes color and then
nothing happens. At this point, nothing really works well. I can't get the
box with the button to go away. The task manager doesn't show excessive CPU
or memory usage. Almost any button I try to push hangs and does not
respond. I reboot and then everything works fine again.

It can be any button, I could be trying to install a program or download
something or sign in to something. The only common denominator is a button
that requires pushing.

It doesn't matter how long or what I have been running. Sometimes it is the
first thing I try to do that hangs up, sometimes the system works well for a
while and then the button problem pops up. But never do I go longer than
about 10 to 15 minutes before the problem arises.

I've updated all the drivers, including the video card to vista drivers. I
hope there is an answer out there, I'm not a guru but I could fix almost
any problem that I ran across in XP with a little internet research.

I stopped in a Mac store at the mall yesterday and I'm hoping I didn't make
a mistake with this new computer, things look so simple over there.

Asus Notebook G1
Intel Core 2 CPU T7200 @2.00 GHz
2 GB Ram 32 Bit Operating System
Nvidia GeForce Go 7700 (it's got a good bit of built in memory, but I'm
not sure where to find that information)

Windows Performance Score is 4.5. (the lowest is Memory, everything else is
4.8 or 4.9)

Any help would be appreciated.

It seems to me that you have the problem as I have (look under the 'Flip 3D
strange behaviour' item also dated from today). I also have an Asus.
First thing you have to try is to turn off the Vista Aero theme, change it
to Vista basic. If that resolves your problem you definitly have the same
problem as i have. It took me hours of figuring out why and un-and
re-installing drivers even my entire OS. But once i turned the Aero theme
off, the problem.was gone
I contacted Asus about this, but no solution so far.

kind regards

It sounds to me like the common denominator is the Mouse! I can't imagine a
problem where every program is having the same exact problem.

Are you using a third party pointing device? Make sure you have the latest
drivers. If this doesn't work, try another type of generic mouse and see if
the problem continues.

Thanks Sandra,
I'm giving it a go right now. Please post a follow up about Asus if you
receive a response from them. It's definitely not a mouse problem, the
mouse works everywhere but on the buttons.
