I tried to install Business Contact Manager, and it froze my computer. I
restarted it, and tried to re install it, and it installed, but then Outlook
wouldn't even open. So I uninstalled it and started over, and the same thing
happened again, the computer just froze when trying to install it. I have
heard advice about deleting the Microsoft SQL Server folder and that is not
possible for me, as it keeps telling me that files are in use, even though
they don't show up on the processes. I am running windows 2000 with service
pack 4 and it is completely up to date. If I call Microsoft to get help, they
just charge 35 dollars to tell me to restart my computer 100 times, and then
say it will be 245 dollars if that doesn't work. Please help.

Hi

You stated intially that you were able to install BCM and Outlook would hang
when opening,is that the current issue that you have ?Can you check if you
have .net Frame Work 2.0 Beta in add/remove programs if so do remove the
same

No, I uninstalled BCM. I also uninstalled the .net Frame work 2.0 as well as
the 5 different sql server programs that were on my computer, and tried to
install BCM again and this time, it installed after hanging for about 20 min,
but when I went to open outlook, it froze, and windows internet explorerer
froze when I tried to open it as well. I talked to a Windows 2000 tech on
your pay for service phone line, and he said it was definitely not a windows
2000 problem, and definitely not a problem with my computer, as I am running
a xeon processor with 1 gig of ram. He said I should try calling to talk to
an office 2003 tech, which is what I tried to do in the first place, but the
office techs all just said that since internet explorer froze up as well as
outlook, it couldn't possibly be a problem with office 2003. But it's only
the business contact manager that is screwing everything up. And with the
help of the tech, we found that if we tried to open outlook two or three
times, it would eventually give us the option to open it in safe mode, and
then after that everything would be fine again, including iexplorer. However,
the business contact manager was no where to be found in outlook. it shows up
on the programs menu for add/remove programs, but in every other sense, it is
not on my computer that i could find. So now I have uninstalled it again, and
everything is back to normal, but I would really like to be able to use the
bcm. I have pretty much ran out of options, since the office techs just tell
me that office is perfect and can't possible cause any problems with a
computer and then immediately transfer me to another department, and the
windows 2000 tech actually took over my computer and looked through the whole
thing and ran all kinds of diagnostics on it and came to the conclusion that
the only possible thing that could be wrong with it is the office software,
but he was not trained to trouble shoot the office software otherwise it
would probably be fixed already. Please let me know if there is anything else
I can do to try and get bcm to install and actually work. Thank you.

Hi

I went through your email and you stated that you were able to open outlook
in the safe mode without any problem .If outlook opens fine in the safe mode
these are the following items that get disabled
- microsoft word as email editor
- as well as any addin listed in addin manager
BCM is a comm addin and will not be disabled (In case you dont find BCM
check if it is listed under file > data file management or under Help >
About Microsoft Outlook > Disabled items some other program like active sync
etc can cause it to get disabled)
Try opening Outlook normally and go to tools > options > other > advanced
options > addin manager and check if the programs that are checked is
causing an issue.you may also want to go to tools > options > mail format
and uncheck word as an email editor.Hope this helps

This morning when I turned on my computer Outlook would no longer run in safe
mode. I popped open a notepad and took notes on what my computer was telling
me as I tried to get Outlook to work. The first thing I did when I turned on
my computer after everything loaded on the desktop (i.e. Mcafee, Setarray
Multi-Monitor Configuration, etc) was try to open outlook. When I click on
it, all it does is show up in the processes. If I click on it 100 times,
there will be 100 instances of Outlook in my processes window. So I close all
the instances of Outlook. Then I click on it again, and it asks if I would
like to open it in safe mode to which I click yes, and same thing, it only
shows up in processes. So then I end the process again, and click on outlook
again, and receive the following message: Outlook failed to launch in safe
mode. Would you like to start 'Detect and Repair'? I click yes on that, and
then it starts a program that looks like it's installing something, and the
window says: Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office FrontPage
2003. This takes about 5 minutes, and while it is installing there are 4
instances of msiexec.exe in the processes window, using between 80 to 100 of
my cpu performance. Afther this runs, Outlook opens just fine. Keep in mind,
this whole time, Internet Explorer will not work. It will open, then freeze,
until Outlook can open, then IExplorer will work just fine. (Outlook doesn't
have to be open, it just has to be able to open) I checked the addin manager,
and it had the following 5 addins:
McAfee Virusscan outlook email scanner
McAfee Spamkiller
Mcafee Spamkiller Exchange Extension
Redemption Helper Outlook Extension
Exchange Extensions property pages
I unchecked all of these, as well as disabled word as the email editor and
rebooted my computer, but had to go through the whole thing agian. I did not
have to go through that whole process yesterday. Although I have installed
and uninstalled bcm about 10 times over the past 2 days. I don't think I will
be trying to install it again, as I would now just be happy with my computer
working as is. I thank you for your time with trying to help me with this
problem, and I am sorry it is evolving into more of a pain each day.
