Business Contact Manager shared database when shared

Does anyone know if its possible to cache a BCM database which is shared so
its available when offline?
 
You can backup and restore the database between laptop and desktop. The
trick is to be disciplined and only every use one at a time. There is
no easy mechanism to merge changes made in both databases.

Thats not the problem we are haveing. We have a group of people who wish to
use the same database so we are all using the same information. We have set
one up on a server which remains on all the time so is available to everyone
if they are connected to the network. The problem is that when we walk away
with a notebook we cannot access the database and have it syncronise when we
get back on the network.
 
What about creating a separate contact folder. I know you can drag and drop
between the two of them but I'm trying to figure out a way to copy between
the two of them. Now you are going to loose functionality but if the goal is
to be able to just see the phone numbers and such, I think this might work
for the meantime.
 
Additionally, if it's an absolute must, I think the BCM for PPC appears to
"cache" contacts locally as well. Or at least it allows you to make entries
and synch up when back in the office.
 
Create two Mail profiles on the notebook.

One for Office the other for Away.

Connect BCM in the Office profile to the shared database.
Connect BCM in the Away profile to a private database.

Before leaving the office, export the database to BCM file.
After switching to the Away profile, import (with merge) the BCM file
into the private database.

Reverse the steps above when you return from the road.
 
Seems like a long walk around something that should be available to the
average Small Business owner who uses their notebook/tablet on the job to
collect or distribute data to the customer then merge with the domain
database...
