Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2003 Update: Windows Small Business Server

We use Windows Amall Business Server 2003, and I have
Outlook 2003 with BCM installed. I followed the
intructions and installed the update as well. I can
create the new Profile and link the BCM database and
setup my Exchange email account. Now, when I start
Outlook and setect my new profile, I am told that BCM has
been disabled, as it cannot coexist with Exchange.
If that is true what is the patch all about? Can I not
use BCM if I am running Exchange on Small Business Server
2003?
Any help would be appreciated!

A few things to check.

1. Are you running in cached mode?
2. Did you reboot after installing the patch?

Thanks for your suggestions!
Yep, I am running in cached mode. Would that cause the
integration between the two not to work?
I did reboot, and tried again just to make sure...
Any other ideas?

I'm having the exact same problem. It appears the patch has no effect
whatsoever. Naturally I've confirmed the patch is properley installed by
cross-referencing all the DLL file versions as described in the KB831747
article. Definitely using cached mode. Even created a brand new outlook
profile to try and debug this. Maybe the patch thinks our SBS2003 exchange
server is a "genuine" exchange server? We upgraded our SBS2000 to SBS2003,
so is there a way for software (eg the DLLs) to determine what kind of
Exchange 2003 server it is? If I use Exchange System Manager, looking at
the server's properties, it naturally tells me:
Name Type Edition Server Version Modified
SERVER Basic Standard Version 6.5 (Build 6944.4) 7/04/2004 1:20 PM

So, how to use SBS2003 exchange and Business Contact Manager together? Has
anyone here been successfull??

I know it's probably designed so this can't be done, but is it possible
somehow to get Business Contact Manager to use the SQL server engine on the
SBS2003 server rather than install a MSDE onto each client PC?

Did you also create the necessary registry entry?

BCM cannot run on SQL Server 2000, only on MSDE.

The only way I know of to actually get BCM to work with a profile that has an Exchange account in it is this:
1) install outlook 2003 and create a profile with an exchange account to the SBS2003 serve
2) install BCM on the PC - let it fai
3) this is the important step - make sure the user you are logged in as - is part of the local group BCMUser on the PC you are running o
4) install the Microsoft patch 83174
5) reboot and go for it....
