This maybe a firmware issue, (or any number of issues?)
The fact that other software will recognise the drive lays
the blame at the drive, not XP nor MM. (....I suspect)
Firmware is a hardware update, from the manufacturer.
As an example, this allows the drive to recognise all the
various blank media - from Obscure Oriental to mainstream
Mainstream jap brands etc. OEM's goto a lot of effort to keep
their product uptodate etc, so a firmware update is where you
both should start.
First identify your drives Brand and model number,
Visit the site for that specific Brand, and rummage for
specific FIRMWARE updates for that model.
If you have problems, post back to this thread with
Brand and model name of your drive.
