We recently joined all personnel (except IT) to our win2k
server as 'users'. How do we allow selected users to user
the burning capability of their CD-RW without assigning
them the the administrators group?

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe. I have not tried this myelf, but see the link below from a website
that claims that a registry mod will work. --- Steve

Yes. To allow Limited User's in Windows 2000/XP to burn/rip CD's, click
"Start", then "Run" and enter "REGEDIT". Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Look in the right pane for AllocateDASD and double click the entry. Set the
value to 2.

Don't know how it works other than it apparently creates a new user
group under which you include whomever you wish to allow to burn CDs. I
suppose you could use InstallWatch to take a snapshot and then analyze
after the install to see what registry changes it made.
