I just got my new computer and the whole reason I got it was to burn dvd's. when i use the software "Sonic" that was provided by dell it tells the that the file is too large to fit on the dvd that I want to burn it on to. Is there something that I am doing wrong? Am I missing something that I should have? Help me please...I feel so computer stupid!

Chances are your file is too large, try keeping the video length to about 1hr30. If it says you still have space on the dvd try a little more time and vice versa. Some programs can get about 2 hrs or more on a dvd others cant
Its all trial and error.

1 hour of av from you camera is going to be about 13 gigs of data and will
not fit on a DVD.
Edit and convert to DVD compatible mp2 and burn to DVD to watch on your home
player. Make sure you have at least 4 to 6 hours of your time to drop on one
video.

I suggest that you look at the website

http://www.dvdrhelp.com

It has a large amount of information on burning DVDs and other related topics. The information is organized into categories based on your level of knowledge (newbie vs. expert). Suffice it to say that there are various settingsin DVD burning programs which control how much video you can pack on a 4.7 GB DVD disk. The higher the quality that you want, the less information that will fit on the disk. Generally, standard quality, compressed as an MPEG-2 file (which is the most common format for DVDs) will get you about 2 hours of video
