Am I missing something or does Movie Maker not offer the option to burn a
ready-to-play DVD?

Under menu heading "Finish Movie" the only options are:

- Save to my computer
- Save to CD
- Send in e-mail
- Send to the web
- Send to DV camera

But I want to *burn* dvd!

I'm new to Movie Maker, so excuse the elementary question.

Thanks!

Windows XP Media Center PCs have
a version of Movie Maker that has an
option to burn a DVD. It's reported that
even then...it's best if you save the finished
movie to your hard drive and use authoring
software to create your DVD.

Thanks for the links, but the one above says:

Export your Movie Maker Video
In order to build your DVD, you need to export your final Movie Maker
project as a video file. Because most DVD creation software don’t recognize
the WMV format, this means you’ll have to export as DV-AVI. Keep in mind
that this format is very bulky (about 200 megs per minute) so if you are
creating a 1.5 hour DVD, you better have a bunch of hard drive space
available.

From what I can tell, the only file type the Movie Maker is capable of
generating is .WMV. So just *how* would one "export" the the file in DV-AVI
format, as suggested?

It seems to me this is a tremendous shortcoming of Movie Maker - it's
inability to burn a DVD.

Not really...Movie Maker is a basic video
editing program not a DVD authoring program.

Thanks ... sorry, I must have missed that one.

Dear David,

Consider Win Movie Maker as an incomplete attempt (God knows why!) of MS and
forget all about it. Turning footage into movies requires an effort
particularly time consuming and H/W - S/W demanding, at least, to create
something good enough, to justify time and effort.

For years now I have been using Ulead Studio (S/W) and Pinnacle (S/W and
H/W). I even dedicated a PC just for processing my footage. Well, after
processing -- according to my records -- some 384 hours of footage 'till now,
I am about to say "Far enough!" due to myriads of problems of Ulead and
Pinnacle S/W. The forum here and the forums of Ulead and Pinnacle are a proof
of my saying.

I teach my students how to take everything out of their camera or camcorder
and soon they realize that raw footage from the hands of an expert is better
from the processed one (with filters, enhancers, etc.). But then, if you want
to have a real movie, you have to anticipate for the time and effort it
includes.
In my country, Greece, the processing of footage for one hour movie (a 4.7
Gb DVD) to most shops of the kind, costs about 50 euros or $ 62 and for each
copy after the first, plus $ 0.62.

Concluding, I have to agree with "… Movie Maker is a basic video editing
program not a DVD authoring program", written below; to only add that it
sounds like getting on a basic moving "thing" that takes you nowhere -- since
it takes you (if and ever) where it wants.
