Burning CDs

I feel rather stupid even asking this question, but I can't figure out how
to use XP's CD burning capability. The help file says to open My Computer,
select the files or folders to copy, and then click "copy this folder" (or
the desired function) under File and Folder Tasks.

I can't even get that far! Where is File and Folder Tasks? If I click on
"edit," I can copy a file or folder, but this apparently is not what I need.
The help files also include instructions that refer to a dialog box. I have
not seen a dialog box or any association with CD burning!

Help! I have considerable experience with some software programs, so this
really does sound like a foolish question -- but the help instructions do
not seem to fit with what I see on screen.

Also: once I get to the correct location, is there any way to burn a
duplicate CD (that is, a duplicate of an existing CD)?

I am using XP-Home Edition.

Thanks,

Hi,
As far as I know you cannot duplicate a CD under XP.
Try right clicking on the file or folder you want to copy and use the "send
to" command, from there you should see your CD writer. When you select that
drive the files will be copied temporarily and a bubble will appear from the
system tray which you can click and then select copy files to CD or if you
like delete temp files.

Hope that helps

Neil

You can always right click "copy and paste". But then in my computer right
click on the CD writer and select "write files to CD"

One of the benefits (or annoyances) of XP is that its interface is seen in
different ways, as configured by the user.
A simple method to use the built-in burner...

Open Windows Explorer
Select the files desired
Drag them to the CD drive letter (this puts them in a temporary staging area)
A bubble should appear
Click on it, then WRITE THESE FILES...
If no bubble, open the CD directory (folder), then right-click and review
the drop-down choices

Be aware that XP's built-in burner is basic. Its capabilities and
limitations are discussed here...

Copying of an existing CD works much the same; it's not direct CD-to-CD.
Use Windows Media Player to COPY FROM CD (in the choices at the left) and
proceed from there. Details in the HELP file.

Thanks,

Thanks very much, Neil and Dev. I tried both of your suggestions and
succeeded. I appreciate the help!
