I have Windows XP Office 10 Pro runnig on my PC. Using
Windows ME, the curse of all systems, I am having trouble
getting the slideshow to burn to CD. I have tried numerous
tips from friends, but they all have XP, not Me and
nothing seems to work. I even tried transfering the show
and the pictures in the show,(in a seperate folder), to
the desktop and dragging them to the CD software site. I
have a external burner.. Any help! Thanks Y

You must use the CD burning software that came with your burner. You can't
do it from within PowerPoint or from Windows Explorer like your friends with
Win XP. What CD burning software do you have?

I have roxio basic cd program. I tried used the data cd
maker- is that correct ? The problem is that no matter how
I try and get the presentation on the cd I end up with the
cd used, but no media! Any specific steps ?

If by "no media" you mean that you copy your sound or video files, but they
don't play from the CD, then see the following:

Links break when I move presentation (and at other times)
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00155.htm

This has to be taken care of in PowerPoint so that when the presentation is
played from the CD the files can be found by PowerPoint .

One way to do it is to publish your presentation as a website. PPT 02 can do
this, as I presume can others. This will automatically get all the files in
the right place.

Then burn the website to CD, after creating the following autorun.inf file
with NotePad and adding it to the presentation root directory. (In the
example, your home page is called index.htm.)

[autorun]
shellexecute=index.htm

This will launch the presentation's home page when the CD is inserted, and
it will play in your browser.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for

[TOP ISSUE - Are you having difficulty opening presentations in PPT 2003
that you just created in PPT 2003? -

Hello,

Unfortunately, you are not using PowerPoint 2003 (which requires Windows XP
or 2000). In PowerPoint 2003 this capability is built into the product
(Package for CD command). This solution bundles the presentation and, by
default, all of it's supporting (linked) files as well as the new
PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to a CD so that when the CD is loaded on to a
supported system the presentation will be opened up automatically in
PowerPoint Viewer 2003. The same feature includes an option to Save to
Folder instead of CD so that you can create a portable, distributable
folder which can be moved to another system, server, etc.

For customers not using PowerPoint 2003 there are a variety manual
workarounds (multiple steps usually starting with using the Pack and Go
feature) and 3rd party workarounds that I will leave to others to suggest.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that PowerPoint should
provide additional options for distributing presentations in full fidelity,
don't forget to send your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft
at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
