Burning a DVD-R

I have been trying to burn files to a dvd-r (pics, etc.). I was able to when
I had windows vista. I went back to XP and now I can't download.
I don't know a lot about computers and drives and programs. I have the
Lightscribe DVD+- writer/CD-writer. If anyone can help me I would greatly
appreciate it.
