Burner rejects disk

I wonder if you can help me with the following:

Situation is:

Have got my home movie into MyDVD and ready to burn, when
I click 'burn', the following sequence occurs:

I select the external DVD burner (Sony DRU-510A, with
which the MyDVD software came), which has a Panasonic DVD-
R disk in it

'checking media appears', then

'loading media'

then I get 'wrong media type' and it ejects the disk


any ideas what could be wrong?
