My sister picked up a used Dell (XP Home) at an estate sale; no software
with it.

I want to format the HDD. Is it possible to burn the OS to CD from the HDD,
if yes, how to do please?

Also, Driverguide.com is selling an app. that collects all the drivers on a
system then those drivers can be burned to CD; anyone have experience with
this app.?

You can't copy the OS off the hard drive in order to reinstall it clean. All
you could do is backup the hard drive as is and copy it back as is.

To do a clean install you need a new copy of XP.

As to driverguide, why don't you go to the manufacturers web sites of all
your hardware and get the latest drivers available and burn them to disk as
backup. That is what I do and is much better in my opinion. I wouldn't trust
the driverguide app to get all the files and registry keys. I bet something
would be missed.

No, not possible. If your sister didn't get a copy of the installation CD,
perhaps Dell can help get you a replacement - presuming you have the license
(possibly the sticker with the COA) for Windows - if not, perhaps the files
are in a recovery partition on the computer itself. Beyond that, you'd have
to buy a full copy of XP Home.

No, no experience with it, sorry. You might want to take a look at
www.belarc.com and run a full system report, print it/save it for future
reference, though.

Can do the manufacturers website; the driverguide thing sounds easier.

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I'll check with Dell on the OS CD.

I have Belarc already on the system.
