Burn DVD from Movie Maker

Once I finish all of my clips in the storybook and save as a movie file the
program asked what I want to do. One option is to record to DVD. After saving
and converting the file it gives me an error message "unable to record DVD
due to an error" I don't know what the error is. At first I thought my movie
may be too long but the DVD's are 120 minutes. My movie is only 90 minutes.
By the way I was in here earlier in the week and your firewire suggestion to
capture audio worked. Thanks

Mike,

Glad the firewire worked out. Its really the way to go. Now onto your next
issue. Don't be fooled by the old 120mins of video listed on a blank DVD (4.7
GB). Reality is that it will only fit about one hour (13GB uncompressed
DV-AVI) of video. MM can not record to DVD. You need authoring software
(Ulead, Roxio, Nero, Sonic MyDVD). That software will compress your file to
fit onto a blank DVD. So even before you start working with the authoring
software, your movie is too long. If you have a DVD burner, you hopefully
have software that you missed that will do this.

Well actually if he's getting the option to record to DVD then Mike must
have the MCE2005 version of Movie Maker. With that you can burn to DVD but
all it really does is use DVD burning software that is on the computer,
usually Sonic MyDVD, to burn.
Mike I suggest you look on your computer for the DVD software, like Steve
said.
Save your movie to DV-AVI and then use the software to create a DVD instead
of using the plug-in within Movie Maker.

I just got a new pc running XP and it came with Movie Maker and Nero. I
don't know what versions (and am not at home now). But, I'm having the same
problem as Mike. I have an option in MM that says "Save to DVD", but if I
choose that it saves for a minute, wastes my dvd, and then gives me an error
message.

After looking at this forum, I'd have thought it would use Nero and write it.
Suggestions? When software comes on a pc, is it the full version or could I
be missing something in Nero or MM?

I appreciate your help, Terri

Well Terri since nobody responded I will although I think this is already
covered assuming your the same Terri that emailed me directly.
In most cases AFAIK the Nero package that comes with your computer does not
include Nero Vision Express which is what you will need to author a DVD with
Nero.
I generally don't recommend using the "Burn to DVD" option in WMM simply
because all that is done is burning the file to DVD without any menus etc...
so you put the disk in the player and it plays, kinda boring, plus you can
only put a single video on the DVD this way and if you make several smaller
ones you can't put them together on one DVD.
My recommendation is always to purchase a DVD Authoring program and use that
instead. Download a few free trial's (there's a list on my website) and find
one you like before purchasing.
