Hi,

I guess the topic is quite old. When i insert a blank CD in my Combo Drive,
the Burn Disc option pops up. It asks to format the Disc and then drag files
to it finally to burn. This is cool and works fine with Vista. Now when i
insert this cd in my other pc having Windows 2000 prof, i cannot view
anything in the CD !!! I tried to install the Roxio Software that came along
with my Plextor DVD Writer. Also tried to install Nero 6. But could not
install/make it work on Vista. Anything Burned with Vista does not work with
other OS !!!

Is there any good software that works properly ? Also why am i not able to
view files in windows 2000 prof. OS ? Any ideas ? Please share.

Thanks,

abckid.

Yes I have had exactly the same problem I wanted to back up some files and
could not view them on another pc with Xp pro installed I tried on a pc with
2000pro installed and couldn't view the files either
Xp pro gave me the message "File structure damaged cannot read the conents
of this disk" or something along those lines.
I did notice when I was burning the files in RC1, once I had dragged and
dropped them in the DVD burning folder I got the message "formatting disk"
and on compleation of that the burning process started.
This would be normal behavior if I inserted a DVD RW disk, But the blank
disk I had inserted was a DVD +R disk, Which is a disk that is already
formatted.
So something is terribly wrong here because most burning programs won't even
allow a DVD +R disk to be formatted as it is intended for single use and
comes already formatted

I'd like to hear if anyone has had this same prob ?
Or if this is a known issue and does MSFT have a list of compatible media ?
Obviously the DVD burning function has been tested and given the ok. So MSFT
must have some idea of what disk are compatible and which aren't,That is
assuming this is a compatibility problem.

I've never used this but isn't there a way to indicate that burning is finished so the table of contents can be written?

Vista seems to use by default a new filesystem-structure that is
incompatible with earlier OS'.

Does seems possible, but to make it incompatible to read with other of its OS
like windows xp and 2000 is surprising !!! Is there any solution for it ?

I have found out a thing :

this night I have inserted a blank CD and wanted to burn a important
download that I need on another machine.
SO Vista ask if I want to burn a CD and asks me the name for the CD.

There is a very small "option" - clicked it and voila! - here one can
choose if you want the Disk as a "Live Filesystem", it says that this is
only readable in Vista.

Or it offers "Mastered Disk" , readable in ALL computers - so I chose that
and yes, Vista burned my Disk and I can open it in a XP-Machine also.

The difference is, as far as I understand that the "Live System" lets you
add files later while the "mastered" option closes the disk, even if only
few files are on the disk.

Maybe this is the solution.
