Which bulk ink (refill-kits) brands (stores) have the best pigmented black?

1. Best quality?
2. Best quality per $(?)?

Best = non-clogging AND waterproof

I'm using the MIS original archival ink---Everything working well so far.

IMHO--once you go with 3rd part ink---trying to worry performance per dollar
is going to have low return. You want good quality at a price that is
**significantly** lower than just buying cartridges. Any refilling or CFS
type solution gives you that.

Earlier I have encountered really bad inks... and those worries aren't not
worth even the smallest price.

So there is definitely a risk that trying ink after ink makin a big
difference in the wallet.

When going with aftermarket ink I think it's a big deal to choose a deascent
quality from start. Compatible ink is worth it, but only when you have
proper information before the purchase.

I've tried a couple, but so far Atlantic Ink Jet appears to be the
best bang for the buck and great service. I can't speak for the
'waterproof' quality, but the difference between colour (no clogging)
prints and OEM ink is not worth mentioning. If you want absolutes,
buy the OEM cart.

Has anyone had experience with using alternate "matte black" ink for
the Epson 2200?

Have you tried using a dilute ammonia solution to clean the head?
I'm not sure exactly how this is done with an Epson's piezo
arrangement, but I seem to recall that someone had advised soaking a
small pad with the solution and inserting it after removing the
cart. Might have to sit there for a while to fully dissolve the
residue.

The ink that is used during a cleaning cycle winds up in an
absorbent pad, and after a number of cleanings, your printer is
likely to shut down. The good news is that you can remove and clean
or replace this pad (by disassembling the printer), and you can also
reset the printer by (as I recall) holding the paper button down for
at least 10 seconds while powering on. Either that, or get the free
"SSCServe" program that should include a reset function.

Not directly related, but if your Epson's head is dead and you start
up the printer in Windows, what error message -- or what sort of
error -- are you likely to get?
