According to the Media Center Edition product description, the Movie Maker
installed with this version of Windows includes built-in DVD burning i.e no
3rd party software required. I have MCE, but when I run Movie Maker there
are no options to burn a DVD nor does the help describe such a feature. My
DVD player is IOmagic 8X and I've tried updating the firmware, but that
hasn't helped.

Hello,

Bad luck....its for the 2005 version........is their an upgrade path maybe??

Hmmm,

You have moved computers, or connection!!

Anyway, this link will take you to the woeful tale on how movie maker can use
DVD recorders...

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/MedctrSDK/htm/overview.asp

I have had a brief look at it and its frankly not worth the effort. In fact
there might be a good case for mis-representation....Movie Maker CAN NOT burn
DVD's on the strength of what I have just read.....all it is doing is looking
for DVD burning software that YOU have installed on your computer......very
laughable and somehow I am not surprised....Have you ever heard of a Shell
Application...I'm sure you have at IBM :)

Hello,

Yeah....well there you go. That little number 2....at the bottom of the page it
reads....

2 DVD Burning and TV Tuning features may vary by manufacturer.
Well of course the features may vary....they have no control (yet) over where
you might buy a device from.
To me a computer is a machine that performs a function...its not a toy or
something I want to brag about because its better than some other persons
machine and I don't need it to have a flashy coloured box with LED's that make
it look....well you can guess...its just a tool. So, when you remove all the
bumph about the CPU gobbling "new Snazzy Look" and "menus" etc etc...what does
that whole page reduce too??? Unfortunately as we now know...not very much at
all....there are those Extender devices...LOL, I have had that ability for
YEARS...why would I want to go and pay hard earned money for a device that I
would be locked into by licence fees and software renewal when the same
technology has been available for quite a while now and at very reasonable
prices??? (A whole lot less than an MCE machine for sure)
I like Movie Maker because its fairly quick and it does a good basic job....If
I wanted a DVD burning Movie Maker, I would definitely NOT buy MCE....sorry if
this sounds like a poke at you its not....I would buy a DVD burner and use
software dedicated to burning disks....Nero 6 Reloaded and DVD Complete are my
tools....they cost a lot less than an MCE machine costs, they are not tied to
Movie Maker or Microsoft and I can alter my requirements at any time "I" wish.
Kicks soap box into the corner :)
