I have an unlimited budget and want to build the fastest PC known to man.

Obviously there is going to be a difference of opinion on what type of
processor I should go for (AMD or Intel).

I am open to opinions on what brands and products I should be looking at. Of
course, I want to buy the best, so I will only settle for the best.

"Fastest possible PC" should scale up to at least a dual AMD operton
system and "fast" has to include disks so I propose dual 10krpm SCSI
disks in RAID0 (striping) configutation. I just advised a buddy on
putting a system like this together, based on a TYAN modo. appx $2000
for the parts, running 64 bit Linux. It screems. He loves it.

Don't forget the fastest hard drives, in a RAID setup.

Grab your budget and get the world's fastest pc built quickly.. the parts
suggested so far could easily be relegated to 'mediocre' status by
mid-afternoon tomorrow.. :)

So you want probable dual opteron processors PCI-Express video board
like an X850 two 10,000 rpm hard drives a 200+Gb hard drive. Check out
this web site:> http://www.alienware.com/

Whatever you buy or build today will be outgunned in a few months time, so be
wise with your money and perhaps buy one step down from the top and save 30%
of the cost of the very top performing items at today's price.

Next year with the money you've saved you can go out and rebuild an even
faster unit and sell this old one to a mate.

Alvin,

If I see you use 'their' once more, I swear I'm going to scream! It's
'there'.

There - directional or positional ' 'that's my house over there' 'no, the
table needs to go there'
Their - plural possessive adjective 'their coats'
They're - contraction of 'they are'

Learn the damned difference - not doing so means you're ignorant.

Exactly, Mike. I sub the PC Format fora and we get idiots like this in there
all the time - generally they're laughed at.

Hmmm...some people use other names in 'other places', Sarah.

PCI-Ex will not cut it. You need a 64-bit PCI-X setup so you can take advantage
of the bandwidth of U320 RAID controllers and a RAID 10 array. You will also
need 15K RPM HDs.

Depending on apps used, a dual Xeon or Opteron will work.

Go easy on him Miss Tick. After all...he may be a product of public schools,
the teacher unions and all the overfunded, worthless bureaucrats that support
them!
