I'm building a new computer and have a full tower case. I'd like to
install maybe 4 drives and 2 CD-ROMS. What kind of motherboard would I
need?

Thanks........

If you want to do that in IDE, you'll need a mobo that has 3 IDE
channels on it.

I had an Abit KT7-RAID board that had 2 ID channels and an integrated
highpoint ATA100 channel from a few years ago that would handle 6 IDE
devices total. That system was never very damned stable though.

If you need that many drives, you might consider making at least some
of them SCSI, but you will pay a premium for SCSI drives vs IDE. I'd
stick with Adaptec for the controller. I found that many SCSI
manufacturers design to Adaptec's hardware and dont' necessarily play
well with others. I had this problem with a Microtek SCSI scanner and
a Buslogic controller that was nearly the end of me. Hard drive
manufacturers, however, may be far more SCSI clueful than Microtek
was, however.

Best Regards,

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm not familiar with ATA. Could you
possible recommend a Web site that has a primer on PC building? I've
Googled many hardware sites but haven'd found a good one yet.

Thanks.....

Without going into gory details, ATA is the mode the highest speed IDE
drives use.

tomshardware.com is very good for reviews and such.
