building own laptop

has anyone built his own laptop just like we do desktops? would like
to receive information on software and hardware howtos from anyone who
has, as well as any useful resource.
really need some pointers in this direction.

What would be the point in that? Most of your components are built into the
mainboard. You could choose your own processor, your own RAM, your own hard
drive ...

But, if you order a laptop online from dell or whatever, you often have the
same choices. Good luck building one for less money, too.

The primary reason to build yourself is so that you end up with a system
with no 'iffy' or proprietary components. This works well for desktops
where you can choose every component. Most of a laptop is contained in one
board though. If you manage to find a source for that board, it's going to
be the same board used in many pre-builts. -Dave
