I am building a computer and would like to get some input on the
components that I have chosen. I included what I have so far in this
message. Can anyone offer some suggestions on a good power supply for
this system and a good CD-RW? I would also like any input that you
may have from experience with any of these components. I am building
the system for a friend who is going to use it for basic things like
e-mail, web surfing and other non-demanding applications. The
components I have so far are not high-performance, but are high
quality.

Thanks for you input! :o)

I like that case but you can get way cheaper cases that are OK.

Theres another one called PC toys at Compusa for 9.99. Ive seen antec
and other fans for dirt cheap though at mail order sites though they
cost about the same or more at non-online retail stores. The Pc toys
has a much higher speeds and is thermally controlled I think so it has
the potential of moving more air and if you look at their cfm claims -
its is higher though potenitally the noise is higher.

Ive got the Deluxe version. I like it though Im getting stuttering
with my SBlive sound card. Im not blaming the board yet since Im
suddenly getting some really weird problems after being infested with
Trojans and viruses. Im getting ready to reinstall everything.

I think the Barton 2500 is close in price in the country I live. Its
one of the favorite OCing CPUs but everyone is saying its locked now.
YOu should be able to reasonably easily OC it a bit though.

The Retail version and OEM version $5 difference I think at Newegg if
you live in the US so theres isnt a really big savings with the OEM.

There seems to be a convergence in price , used to be a huge
difference in 2100, 2700 and 400 DDR. Now they seem to sell often at
fairly close prices. I saw some Geil I think it was called 400 DDR at
Newegg on sale yesterday I think - the sale maybe over though , for
around $89 or so for 512 megs. WHen I guy Im getting the fastest
decent mem I can so I can perhaps try to carry it over to the next
system so Id shoot for 400DDR at a cheap price unless I can get 2700
for next to nothing.

If you live in the US go for a rebate deal from Omax, Depot or
Compusa. You can get some killer deals on HDs nowadays.
CD-RW: Black 52x/24x/52x

LITEON In fact I think the black ones are a bit cheaper. Try Newegg.

You might want to think about getting a cheap DVD rom drive on rebate
at Compusa or whatever look at the sales if you live in the US. And
then get a DVD burner which can also burn CDRs. There should be some
sub $100 dual format drive sales in the coming weeks with Thanksgiving
and Xmas coming up - IF you live in the US.

Antec or whatever is on sale.

I highly recommend Antec power supplies as being rugged and WILL deliver its
rated output in the real world(unlike a lot of brands.)

Panaflo or Papst fans are much better and quieter.
