Building a SATA File Server

I need a large amount of drive space to store media files (I take a
lot of pictures and home movies). I would like to build a file server
to hold this data, perhaps using 4 SATA drives of 250 Gig each. Most
of the motherboards I've looked at only support 2 SATA drives. I
suppose there is a difference in the reliability and performance of
systems intended as servers in comparison to workstations, so I might
need to look at a different class of hardware?

How do I daisy-chain SATA drives?

Does anyone have any recommendations for file-servers?

As a second project, I would like to make a mobile file server, for my
vehicle. I need a way to store video and photographs taken from
cameras mounted on my car.

You don't. Buy a PCI SATA card.
