Anybody know where I can get the raw materials to build my own 19" rack? I
need a special configuration to integrate with another type of chassis. Is
this kind of manuifactured material even manufactured in America anymore?

Maybe you'll find something here: http://www.mcmaster.com/

Just how "raw" are you looking to go? Google can find
bauxite mines, or aluminum slugs, extruded channels,
finished rack rails, etc, etc. For example,

I'm hoping to find the vertical members pre-formed and drilled but the
current status suggests these are built to order by those who are building
the racks in large enough numbers to get the steel as inexpensively as
possible. I'll have to do the same at some point and job it out but I'm in
early stage development and need to build two prototypes. I've found
sources for the separate shelving which are used. I'll be needing some of
that but so far no vertical members as stock I could pick off the "rack" to
build my own racks.

I used to build mini-bikes and stuff in the "old days" B.C. (Before China)
and could find just about anything locally and regionally but these days?
Ha.

Thanks for the links I'll certainly follow through...

Is this what you seek:

Yea, I found some of that already. Thanks for another source. I'm going to
start going tp some auctions and see if I can pick up a used rack or two.
I'm finding raw stock to be quite pricey at the moment.

I've found this site to be very dependable for small quantity
purchases. The only better pricing, for small quantities, I've
found is at a local metal supply and recycle yard in the pick
through cut pieces area.

I used to melt my own metal for green sand casting, and
still do little things like waterblocks, on my lathe/mill. I found
them to be prompt and they even send what I actually order.

The pricing for a project will probably appear outrageous
until you start actually getting quotes from suppliers, if they
will even talk to you. The industry is definitely not geared
to anyone not ordering by the ton.

Luck;
Ken

Nice Ken, check this out too [1]. Thanks to kony who referred in this news
article to the starcase solution I see I can build from "modular" parts
which is appealing. I have to put more study into the options I'm finding.
More choice for telescopic square stock in a light guage would be an
interesting find. I got started by searching through Thomas and still need
to mine McMaster-Carr. Thanks for your comments...
