Wasnt sure where to put this thread, but basically i would like someone to build me a computer.

My basic wants are:

  1. Nice case & a good psu (preferrably quiet)
  2. Good motherboard, with expansion opportunities
  3. Processor, intel pentium 4 3.0/3.2 or the AMD equivalent (i have no idea)
  4. Memory, 512mb -1gb (rather 1gb), with room to upgrade it
  5. Hard drive, 120gb least
  6. cd drive, followed my a re-write underneath
  7. Graphics card & sound card (need help deciding on whether to buy 1's or use built in
  8. anything i missed?
thanks in advance all

I live in Brackley, near Northampton/Buckingham/Banbury/Milton Keynes

Basically as cheap as i can get it as i have just invested my money in a new Honda VFR 400 for when i turn 17

cheers

Well whats the MAXIMUM you would want to spend

Do you need a monitor?
Keyboard?
Mouse?
Speakers?

Do you play graphically intensive games?

If you don't want to bulid one yourself would you travel to my house to collect (i thing its an hour and a half away... my sister went to see Greenday in Milton Keynes) Enter Whitehill, Hampshire into AA routefinder. Postillus Systems would be happy to have your business ;)

Maybe, how much will you charge me for building it?

Basically the best i can get for £300-£500, i play some games like c&c generals and the sims, just need the main unit.

cheers

Special offer for PCR members... £20 + Components :)

I'll spec you a system when i got more time...

Sounds fair enough, thanks very much, i will also try and have a look at some components and get a spec list, most of this was mentioned in my first post,

Thanks.

£262 inc P&P & VAT

That totals £732.00 all in - what would you like to downgrade?

Wow, thats more than i bargained for, how will this work i order the parts and get them deliverd to you, or do you buy them and i pay you?

Also the processor, what is the Intel equivalent?

I quote you a spec, you pay me via cheque or bank transfer, once the funds are cleared i order the components and have them delivered to my place.

I then send you a final spec sheet and description of components

I then build the system, install the operating system, install latest updates, install Anti Virus and Spyware programs + any other programs that you (legally) request.

Once it is all complete, i contact you and arrange a time for collection.

My advice, Fwiw, stay away from Intel - the Athlon 64 3500 is a great CPU.

Also, the Sapphire X800GTO is *HIGHLY* overclockable - you can unlock loads of features and it will perform like an X850XT. Bargain.

Not entirely sure... but expect to sell your kidneys to afford it.

If you do heavy multitasking, go Intel

If you play any games, go AMD

do a bit of both, usually downloads and web-design, aswell as the old paintshop stuff up aswell, and occasionly some games
