If the 30 day period is going to end you also can run the following command:
rundll32 slc.dll,SLReArmWindows
(type exactly with the coma and : it's Case-SeNsItIVe!)
- this resets the Activation Timebomb to 0 and you get once again 30 days.
( no Joke ! )
This works at a minimum 1 time, in previous builds reported to work 3 times.
So you can run 5840 ( and perhaps newer builds ) for 2 or 3 months without
reformatting.
Do not try to change the Computers Bios Date - for this will result in a
"ActivationPeriod has expired / This Copy of Windows vista is not genuine /
Buy a new Product Key / Access Computer with reduced functionality" and all
those SPP gags.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have played with 5840 now since it is available and I really like the
speed and all the solved bugs.
Vista now seems in a very good shape and much apps that never did before
run, now do.
Alcohol,Daemon Tools, Nero, most Antiviral-Tools.
I am testing also the first Tweaking System and Gui-EnhancementsTools for
Vista on this Build and even they do what is expected.
Also very much old 16bit apps now run perfectly, tested for Example Office
4.2/ Office 95, Microsoft BOB ( anyone remembers ? ) - not, that I would
like to run those historic apps on Vista, but it's always good to know, that
in case I want to, it is possible.
What is annoying the most is that Winhelp32.exe is missing, so all older
apps cannot display any help-contents.
Vistas built in Help now says " that is by design..blahblah.. because the
old help doesn't fit MS Standards anymore..." Ignorance at its best - Why
couldn't they have both help formats - the Vista one to display all new
helpfiles and the winhel32 for the older ones.
If I remember correct there was a similar handling in Windows 3.x and
windows 95 help- but never such a bumper to exclude the Engine.
SBJ ( now on the 5744 machine )
