This is more a curousity than anything else, but if you'd like to install it you
can go through your bookmarks and see what sort of tracking devices they might
contain.

"Bugnosis works with Internet Explorer 5.01 and greater, though IE 5.5 and
greater are recommended." (no other browsers supported :( )

"Why isn't there a Netscape, Mozilla, Mac, or Opera version of Bugnosis?

Simple -- we don't have the time and expertise required to support those
platforms."

"Bugnosis requires the Microsoft Installer software and Microsoft XML 3.0 (or
greater). These components cannot be uninstalled once you install them, but
we're not aware of that being a particular problem."

"Can Bugnosis detect Web bugs that I have received as e-mail?

No, sorry."

v1.3 (921k) from the Privacy Foundation.

Good reading even if you don't have IE installed.

Seems Bugnosis has a bug. When I remove the toolbar it pops up again without
my consent next time I start IE.

I'm using XP and Internet Explorer v6.0.28.

"How can I find the "context menu" that controls Bugnosis?

When you click on the Bugnosis icon in the toolbar, it either shows or hides the
Bugnosis "analysis window" -- a horizontal window that takes up the bottom few
lines of your Internet Explorer window. The analysis window is where Bugnosis
will tell you about Web bugs that it finds. To find the Bugnosis context menu,
you must first make the Bugnosis analysis window appear, and then right-click
within that window. Note that right-clicking on the toolbar's Bugnosis icon
itself does not display the context menu."

You "disable" the program with the context menu, or, uninstall normally if you
are finished with it.

If you are hiding the toolbar I think the default action is to replace it each
IE start.

I used Bugnosis for quite some time. It's nice... gives you a feel for
which websites are commercially based. However, AFAIK, it hasn't been
actively developed for quite some time (since 2001, I think).

I think they simply do not have the time and resources to develop for all
platforms and browsers. I'd really like to see this extended for email clients,
but again, the number of platforms and clients is staggering.

I got a new database download when I installed a couple of days ago and another
new one today, so they are still working to keep the DB updated at least.
