I have deleted Bugbear by use of the symantec roval tool on an XP Pro PC.

However the dial up modem now refuses to dial out. It reports an error
stating the port is already open and in use by another program.

I have tried another modem, changed PCI slot but the modem does not click or
make any noise of engagement. however the query tool in Diagnostics appears
OK and everything else looks correct. I have also tried changing Com Port to
no avail.

Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Either the Virus removal deleted an essential networking component, or there is
another program running that has control of the modem port (such as a porn
dialer). The simplest way to handle that problem is to delete ALL networking
components and reinstall.

which would be a very troublsome task if all that has happened is that his
normal DUN settings are corrupted!

Reinstalling the network components is a 10 minute task, and far simpler than
trying to troubleshoot the actual problem or reinstalling the entire operating
system. I have done this many times.
