Hi there,

I think there's a bug with the word wrapping in Outlook
2002, sp2, when saving a draft of a message when in
plaintext view.

Here is an example:

Before I save a draft message, I have multiple lines of
text in the document:

Hewlett-Packard Company - WW Customer Operations IT
Config/Quote IPC Development Team - System Integration Team

However, after I save the message as a draft and then
reopen it, the carriage return between the two lines is
gone, and then I end up with:

Hewlett-Packard Company - WW Customer Operations IT
Config/Quote IPC Development Team - System Integration Team

(Which might not be apparent because of the auto-word wrap
in this textfield widget that I'm typing in right now--
it's breaking the text in exactly the same place as the
original carriage return.) Basically, after saving the
text, the carriage return between "IT" and "Config/Quote"
is gone.

However, if I type:

Line one
Line two

and save the message, the text remains exactly as it is.
I had another list of short sentences with one carriage
return at the end in another message, and they all
scrolled into a paragraph once I reopened the message
later.

In any case, if I save a message draft, all of the text
should remain unchanged when I reopen it, and it does not.

Thanks,
Kevin

Further information regarding this problem.

Once I set the "Remove extra line breaks in plain text
messages" to unchecked, this stopped happening. I guess
the problem is that Outlook's algorithm for determining
when to remove an extra line break isn't that smart, and
will mess up any message which successive lines of text
with certain characteristics. One other example:

Facilitation of morning production support calls.
Research and prep for support calls.
Preparation of daily critical issues spreadsheet.

These three lines will scroll into a paragraph when
the "Remove extra line breaks in plain text message" when
the box is checked, but will remain as they are with that
box unchecked--after saving a message as a draft, closing
it and reopening it.

Clearly this cannot be the intended behavior of the
functionality.

Thanks,
Kevin
