significo. --

I tried windows defender but, after an update I download yesterday, it gave
me this error : 0x80004003 - Not a valid pointer (I'm traslating beacause I'm
Italian).

Goodbye.

Thanks for the link, I will give it a go the next time I run into the issue.

However, it may be worth noting that I did not do a "reinstall" of the
application prior to running into the problem. I have not reinstalled the
application since the original installation - so even though the "fix" in the
link provided may work to fix the problem next time it occurs, perhaps the
knowledge base article should be updated to reflect that the problem can also
occur when the software has NOT been reinstalled.

Thanks, regardless, for the effort and time.

Hi TallCowboy

Reinstalling WD will not solve this issue. This "Invalid Pointer" error is know to Microsoft
and they have fixed the bug in house. We are currently awaiting an update to the
UI(User Interface) MSASCui.exe that will fix this issue.

Joe Faulhaber [MSFT] made several posts to the Announcements and General groups
back on 2-24-06 regarding this issue. As to why it's taking them so long to issue the
fix, it's anyone's guess.

Thanks for getting the right information out in this thread. I suspect that
updates to the user interface have a higher bar in terms of how soon they
are distributed--and also that there is other work to be done there--the
awaited option to allow the icon to show, for example.
