Bug in Windows2000 search?

While searching within the default folder backup logs, search for backup*.log succeeds when the "Containing text:" field is left blank. When the "Containing text:" field is populated with a string appearing early in every file in the folder however, the search finds "no results". This has been replicated on all Win2K servers and workstations under my control.
