Hi,

After a week of trying to get my BT mail working and having had no luck with
the port 587 fix I found the following solution for Vista with NAV:
Leave your outgoing port set to 587 and then disable the NAV firewall !

It appears that NAV firewall is blocking port 587 from sending, prior to
doing this
I could only receive mail.

I'm not keen on turning off the firewall all the time so does anyone know
how to
set the firewall to allow port 587 to tunnel ?

cheers
Sarah

If you've spent any time reading the responses from experts here,
you'd know that NAV needs to be uninstalled completely because
it is not compatible with Windows Mail. Windows Firewall will take
care of any firewall needs. If the NAV firewall coders knew their
business, they wouldn't be blocking port 587 for Windows Mail.
Take that as a hint what I think of the Norton coders!

Thanks for the information Gary however I would point out that
there is no need to completely uninstall NAV but simply to switch off the
firewall
Win mail then functions correctly.

With regards to your opinions of NAV coders I don't see that your comments
have any relevance to this issue.

Oh and I did read the advice but most of it was wrong for my particular case.

regards

Switch off the firewall? Crazy!
Win mail then functions correctly.

Famous last words.

As long as either the Norton or the McAfee crapware is installed expect
problems.

Try a different approach.
Disable NAV email scanning(in and out) and disable NAV Internet Worm
Protection.
Ensure that with port 587 in use that the correct settings are present
for outgoing authentication and SSL encryption.
