have a computer running win2k running horribly slow,
ran , figured i had systems files getting screwy so i ran
a recovery console to repair , upon reboot got a BSOD and
an error message stating that the redbook.sys wouldnt
load. Went all over looking for why and all I could find
was to delete the redbook.sys file from the startup ,
when i tried , it said it couldnt find it so therefore no
deleting it. Then tried to boot into Safe Mode and
couldnt. What do i do now???

couldnt. What do i do now???

Restore from backup (of your System State)?

What did you do in Recover Console? There is little
or nothing there for a system with "running slow or
getting screwy"?

Put the file (or setting) you deleted back...

Get "redbook.sys" from the W2K CD from the i386 folder and
put it here:
C:\WINNT\system32\drivers
Running CHKDSK /R from recovery console is a good thing,
if you haven't done that already. If this is what CAUSED
the problem (ouch), then there's additional issues.
You might want to look into the SFC command, but it also
can make things either better or worse.
