"BSOD" issue on my laptop

I upgraded my (home use) WIN98 based PIII laptop to XP-
Pro (Dual boot). I installed a new, larger HDD and
reinstalled XP-Pro. OK so far.

Now, occasionally, due to some unknown conflict, I get
a "BSOD" style message that supposedly tells me the
nature of the boot problem.

However, the computer powers-off before I can read the
message.

Is there a way to get the computer to stay on, or is
there a file or log that contains this info so I can
troubleshoot the problem?

TIA

Try going into the BIOS for the laptop and seeing if there is mention
anywhere about rebooting on errors. If there is change that to stop or halt
on errors so the computer won't automatically reboot.

Check the system event log for the Save Dump event. Post that bugcheck code
and we might be able to assist.

Thanks.

It turned out to be on the [System
Properties>Advanced>Startup and Recovery control!
