Possibly, if you have modified them quite a bit from default - particulry if
you are requiring digitally signed commnications for both server/client and
maybe if you have additional restrictions for anonymous access set to no
access without explicit anonymous connections, but I would first check that
file and print sharing and Microsoft Client for networks is installed and
enabled on each computer, that netbios over tcp/ip is enabled, and that any
personal firewalls [including the built in one in XP] is either disabled or
configured to allow lan traffic. However do not disable any firewall unles
you have other firewall protection from the internet such as a cable/dsl
router. -- Steve

file and print sharing is installed
microsoft client for network installed netbios we cant use because of
security issue
there is no problem with xp i m sure because it works fine with other
computers
everything works fine accepts name resolution of this win2000 computer

I believe the problem is that you don't have netbios over tcp/ip enabled which
is needed for the browse list. --- Steve

From what has been said so far, it appears that you have 2 choices..
1) install NetBIOS, but you said that was a non starter
2) create an entry in your HOSTS file to point to the Win2000 PC, and enable LMHOSTS lookup (create a static mapping
use notepad to open C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. and add an entry mapping the IP address to the machine name of your Win2K machine, if you put a #PRE at the end it will preload that entry and route you to the correct machinme without waiting for your DNS server to fail resolving the name

example: 102.54.94.97 mywindows2000machine #PR

sorry i m not agree with u in most of the companies i hav not seen netbios
otherwise i hav tried it also it is not working as per MS too we must not
enable nebios over tcpip
i again want to to tell u my problem is
from A computer i m not able to browse network neibourhood from network
neibour hood option
from B computer i m not able to broswe a computer by writting \\A in
explorer wheither i can share data of that computer by \\ipaddress
