Pamela

Hello,

I have a problem. I am using IE version 6 with a cable
modem. The connection seems great and I can pull up any
website BUT when I search using Yahoo/Google I get
the "This page cannot be displayed" error. I can't seem
to search. I've checked the security but it all appears
to be fine. This has been going on for a least a week so
it isn't just that Yahoo is down.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!!!

Trojan Qhosts hijacks the HOSTS file, however unlike normal redirectors,
this one hides the HOSTS file in the "Windows\Help" folder. It then
creates entries that redirects *all* major search engines to a website.
Note: this website has now been removed, thus the DNS errors.

Microsoft has released a cumulative patch for this vulnerability:
Simply go to Windows Update [hotfix 828750]

If your AV did not detect or you simply don't have an AV (bad idea)

It's part of the Trojan Qhost virus that the microsoft
patch did not correct.
I was able to download a patch from McAfee that corrects
the problem

I am having the same problem with being redirected from
search sites. Used 10/10/2003 version of AV to scan and
did not find anything. Ran the specific Qhosts repair
tool and it did not find anything. Thoughts on next
steps??

How positive are you that it's the Qhosts virus.

Other parasites will cause havoc with search engines.

This one for example.
