I posted an earlier issue and this is also related.

I can reboot the notebook and login using the
administrator. I then run ipconfig /all and all of the
settings seem ok.
I cannot browse either the Internet or map any netwrok
drives.

It is a windows 2000 domain.
As I mentioned the IP assigned in in our dhcp scope and
the default gateway and dns etc are all assigned
automatically.

I have installed Safenet(disabled) and Zone alarms also
disabled.

I can not ping anything but the lacl machine and the
network connection shows connected.
I have also configured a dialup connection which seems to
work fine. This is for use with the VPN.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Mark

Hi Mark,

The symptoms you describe make it sound like the problem is related to some
type of firewall software on the system. This is usually the case if you
are unable to ping anyone on your LAN and cannot map network drives.
Installed firewall software would allow you to connect a VPN connection,
however.

I would check to see if the Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) is enabled
on the laptop. You can find this on the Advanced tab when you open the
properties of your network connection.

If ICF is not enabled, I would uninstall the firewall software products you
mentioned to see if it changes the behavior. There is no reason you should
not be able to ping any IP address on your network (unless they are running
firewall software as well).
