Can anyone tell me whether I.E. 6.0, or Netscape 7.1 is the better
browser??!!

I am new to XP and am being inundated with pop ups using I.E. I have the
browsers firewall enabled, and needless to say it does little to nothing.
I do have Nortons firewall, but deleted it due to the fact that it affects
some graphics and some of my e-mails. I had it set to default, and tried
setting it to lower points of protection, but it pretty much was defeating
the purpose to which it was intended. Got the popups and still was affecting
graphics & e-mail. By the way I am on a cable ISP.
When on win98, I ran Netscape with no 3rd party firewall and did not
encounter the pop up problem.
If anyone is running N/scape on XP, please let me know how it is..
Many thanx in advance...................Dave

Hi Dave,

A firewall won't block popups from web browsers. If you're getting lots of
popups, I would suggest downloading Ad-Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com and
scanning your system for spyware.

Dave,
I run Netscape 7.1 on Windows XP and find it terrific. It is fast and
feature rich: pop-up blocker with optional white-list so your online
banking system can be allowed to have pop-ups; It has a mail reader
with "junk" mail identifier: it learns from what You Flag as Junk.
And it has "skins" that let you choose the look and feel. - RM
(p.s. and it is free!)

Try this:

IE based.... blocks pop-ups, can turn off images, sounds, videos,
activeX.... very easy... uses little resources....

Dave:

I tried NS but found it to be very slow and labourious
to use. Not sure if it is a compatibility problem or
what but personal experience has lead me to use IE. It
runs much more smoothly and efficiently. As for pop-ups
et al, you can download popup stoppers from several sites
free and they all seem to work fairly well (well, except
of course for the popups that you have to endure while
downloading the free stopper...*S*).

Hi Rick,

I am familiar with N/Scape, ran it for years because of the perpetual
problems with IE.
I thought I'd give IE a shot when I put in XP, and it seemed much more
stable than previous versions.
As much as I would love to go back to N/Scape, there are a few things it
doesn't seem to work with such as M/S tweak programs.
When I ran N/S 7.1 on win98 I had next to no pop ups and as you stated, it
is feature laden, something IE really isn't.
Again, many thanx................Dave
