WinXP Pro SP2
IE7 is installed
When a browse button on a web page is clicked (like to upload a picture
file), browser freezes up. This happens with IE7 or with Firefox, so I'm
thinking there is something up with WinXP itself. By stripping out
running processes, I can sometimes get it to work again, but not always.

This is a fairly fresh format/reinstall of Windows on a Dell laptop.

Windows and IE quality seem to be in a freefall.

Is it possible to remove IE7 and install IE6?

Any ideas?

Thanks, Bill

Hi,
If both IE and Fx are affected, I would look to a third-party program as the
cause. May not be the exact name, but I remember hearing that Yahoo image
manager/Yahoo download manager has caused this.

Disabling add-ons from IE> Tools> Manage add-ons would be a good place to
start. Or the troublesome program may not show up as an add-on. Blocking
unnecessary programs from MSCONFIG> Startup might reveal the guilty party.

When disabling programs, be sure to turn on the Windows Firewall from
Control Panel> Windows Firewall before disabling a third-party firewall.

Hope this helps,
Don

I had Yahoo Online Protection on the machine, and uninstalling it seems to
have fixed the problem.
Thanks, Bill

Not actually a reply but can't get a new question box to pop up. I'm having
a similar problem. Been years since I've worked with web sites and I wanted
to use the built-in ftp programs. Windows XP - as well as the HP Share to
WEB both cause my computer to freeze up.

Not sure if this will help, but is Java installed on your computer?
Sometimes you need Java to use such things.
I am in agreement about the freefall :-)
