Not sure why, but all of a sudden, my browser doesn't
recognize sites without www infront of the URL.

for example:

http://my.yahoo.com works.

www.yahoo.com works.

my.yahoo.com does not. results in a redirect to
search.msn.com

Is there anything I can do to fix this in the registry?
The only think I can think of is that the fortnight.b
virus was clean off of my computer a few months ago. I
don't know it that virus messed up my registry.

thanks

David L,
Some program (usually spyware\parasite) may have overridden the URL prefix
setting?
Open Regedit to the following locations and verify the below default
entries:
Start | Run (type) "regedit" (no quotes)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPre
fix]
@="http://"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\Prefixes]
"ftp"="ftp://"
"gopher"="gopher://"
"home"="http://"
"mosaic"="http://"
"www"="http://"

Note: edit as needed, *always* Export before editing.
