Browser will not open more than one window

No matter what settings I choose, Explorer uses only one window when
browsing. This frequently leads me to a dead end, unable to use the Back
button and forced to restart Explorer. I also cannot start more than one
version of Explorer, though I used to be able to do that. I have been inside
the Internet Options countless times trying to change this setting. I'm sure
it is a simple and stupid fix. What am I doing wrong?

Go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced.
Uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts".

Also, if you have Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, a firewall,
Earthlink (or another pop-up blocker) My IE2 (a shell for IE) etc.
Yahoo Companion is a very common cause.

You'll have to turn off the feature that's blocking new windows or, perhaps,
uninstall the program (especially uninstall Yahoo Companion).

With some programs of this type, using Ctrl+click or Shift+click will allow
a new window.

If you're *sure* that another program isn't causing this, these links may
help.

Thank you so much. It wasn't so obvious after all. I uninstalled Yahoo
Companion and immediately was able to open more than one Explorer Window.

Separate but related...I can open multiple IE windows, but only the last one
opened will respond or react. This started a few weeks ago. Now, I have to
click on the show desktop icon then click on the non-responsive IE window
from the toolbar. Most annoying... Running XP pro on IBM thinkpad all
current including SP2, latest Windows updates and IE 6. Any suggestions.
Thx, BD
