Browser service fails when transfering large files

I have a persistent problem with Winxp workstations on my
NT4 Domain. Whenever a transfer of large file(s) or a
transfer of many smaller files is made to-from the
network drives, the workstations browser service
terminates with error 2550, causing a loss of connection
with the network. In addition, the connection speed
degrades with time during the transfer. There is no event
announcement on the server, besides the usual browser
elections. Can anybody propose a solution?
 
As this problem seems to be too complex for anyone here,I
may have found my own solution to this. I am using WINS,
and discontinued DNS. For the time being, it is working.
