Why did my browser send it's cache? I couldn't visit the web site until I emptied it. That was the message I got from the website.

Reload and reconfigure my browser? How do I do that?

Why do you think that your browser sent its cache anywhere? These are local
temporary files.

If the cache is full, old files are automatically dumped to make room for
new. However, if you are downloading a large file - you may run into a
prompt to clear the cache and try again.

To clear the cache for Internet Explorer: Click on Tools> Internet Options
found in the menu bar of an Internet Explorer window. On the General page
is a section for Temporary Internet Files. Click the Delete Files button.
You will be asked if you want to delete offline content too - answer Yes.
When this is done, close the Internet Options window. Close any open
browser windows. Relaunch Internet Explorer and try the site again.

Thank you for your help. I was informed by the website I visited that my
browser cache was dumping inself onto their website and was told to empty
it and was denied access until I did that.

I have been clearing the cache regularly the way you said. I wasn't
downloading anything at the time. I have since installed spyware in case it
was some kind of redirection attempt or something.

I really would like to know why it wanted to empty itself there because I
read in another posting that some ISPs cancel the subscriber because of
complaints and I thought my browser dumping itself might generate a
complaint about me. Surely someone else has had this happen to them as
well.

You're welcome, Jerry. I have never heard of this. The only way that you
can deposit files onto a website is to upload them specifically to that
site: FTP, web publishing device, or similar mechanisms - all of which you
would have consciously initiated. This wouldn't be something that happened
by "mistake."

Checking your system for viruses, trojans, worms, adware and other malware
is a good defense always and good time to check up on something strange
like this situation. If your system comes up clean after scanning with an
antivirus program that is up to date in its virus definitions and after
scanning with up to date spyware remove tools such as AdAware or Spybot
Search and Destroy -- I would say that you're in the clear.

I thank you for your help. I know my browser sent it's cache because the
web site I went to informed me that my browser cache was dumping on them and
that I needed to empty it before I could go there. I wasn't downloading
anything at the time. I regularly have been clearing the cache the way you
described. I have installed spyware since hoping that would help just in
case it was some kind of redirection attempt or something.

Thanks again. I now have Spybot Search and Destroy and AdAware and they
found several threats which I had removed. I then ran the Anti Virus
scan and it came up clean. It was a web site that sells tests to help
get Microsoft certifications and I was trying to take their free demo
test to practice for my A+ HW test. I thought it was nice of them to
let me know about my browser trying to empty it's cache there so at
least I know they didn't try to get it and gave me a chance to do
something about it.

You're welcome, Jerry. I'm glad to hear that you were able to find the root
of this problem. Malware is a serious threat these days. It's important to
to stay as vigilant about these things as it is to maintain virus
protection and an effective firewall.
