OK this is going to sound a bit wierd,(or maybe not). First I will start
with the site description.

I have a site with 10 machines XP and a 2000 server.
They are all up to date on all Microsoft patches and such.
IE 6 etc.

What is happening is this:

When a 'bad' url is typed into the addressbar of IE instead of taking them
to the typical MSNsearch can not find site it redirects them to their
company home page. This occurs whether or not "their home page" is set to
the comany page or google or yahoo etc. They can not tell me how long this
has been happening either. I am leaning towards this being a Active
Directory issue of something, but thought I would start here first. I have
checked their local DNS records and they seem to be setup correctly.

If I am forgeting something let me know. any help would be great.

By "redirects them to their company home page" do you mean that it redirects
to the home page of the company that has "10 machines XP and 2000 server" or
do you mean that it redirects to the home page of the company owning the
"'bad' url"? Where is the "'bad' url" hosted? On the local "2000 server" or
is it somewhere else?

IE 6.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

or:

SpyBot-S&D
http://security.kolla.de/

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

it redirects them to their company home page which is hosted at a different
location. Their local domain was named the same as their internet site, so
that may help. They are able to browse to 'good ' sites just fine, it is
just as if the auto search function in IE has been tampered with..
