Is it the case that XP Pro comes with only MSN Explorer, and that one
must sign up with MSN as the ISP in order to use it?

If so, how does one download another browser (Mozilla, Opera) if he
already has a different ISP?

Hi

Internet Explorer is included with XP. No need to sign up with MSN - just
your ISP.

XP comes with Internet Explorer, not MSN Explorer. XP does put the
butterfly icon on the desktop for signing up for MSN paid services. You can
use basic MSN services by navigating to msn.com in IE6 (the blue E).

Don't confuse msn.com with the subscription based MSN which also provides a
set of services for paid members that includes an MSN browser, a more
extensive email client, and greater storage than the Hotmail client
available from IE6. Just because you are seeing the MSN home page in IE6
does not make what you are seeing the MSN browser.

Thanks, but since I only have the butterfly (MSN Explorer) showing up on
my desktop, how do I find IE on my system and make a short cut to
execute it?

I found a folder for IE but have no clue as to which file might start IE
Explorer. Do I have to use the Connection Wizard to come up with such a
file? (IE was not in my startup menu, by the way). Connection Wizard is
one of the subfolders under Internet Explorer.
Confused. I am using a brand new, out of the box, computer with XP Pro.

Hi ... Windows xp comes with both Internet Explorer and
MSN Explorer ... To have Internet Explorer on your
desktop , Just do the following ... click start buttom ,
then All Programs , Now you will notice both Internet
Explorer and MSN Explorer , all you need to do is
highlight Internet Explorer and right click it , select
Send To , then select Desktop ( shortcut ) Now you will
notice Internet Explorer browser on your desktop ...
There no need to sign in or anything , But you do need to
be connected with an Internet provider ... One last thing
don't listen to others that say Firefox or Opera is
better then Internet Explorer its not true or is those 2
other browsers faster ... Internet Explorer is far the
best browser out there ... Firefox and Opera to my
opinion SUCKS

PS.
Finally found the shortcut--it was in Documents and Settings. Not very
intuitive.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

put that as a link on your desktop, for example.

Right click on the desktop, choose properties, then select the Desktop tab
and click on Customize Desktop (near the bottom of the tab). On the General
Tab put a checkmark by Internet Explorer desktop icon.

Hot Mail is not provided by IE6!!!

Right click a blank spot on the desktop.
Choose Properties.
Click the Desktop tab.
Click the Customize Desktop button.
Put a check mark for Internet Explorer.

My comment was to say, MSN is not an integral part of IE6. If you enter
"mashed potatoes" in a Google search, you will come up with something. A
person can enter anything they want in the address bar and probably come up
with something.

Hotmail is one of the four links in the upper right when you access MSN via
IE6, along with My MSN, Messenger, and MSN Music.

So what?? It is not an integral part of IE. It is your option to use it or
not. You could also use AOL if you had a mind to. Many applications you
install offer a link to subscribe to various services, you don't have to
subscribe to any of them to use the program you bought, if you don't want.
